Science Advisor
Dr. Donna J. Nelson is a prominent advocate for scientific accuracy in television, film, and other media. She works within the developing field of “Disaster Entertainment and Film Consulting.” She has also provided scientific assistance to attorneys, members of the US Congress, and district attorneys on drug cases.
She served as the science advisor for the AMC TV series Breaking Bad. After a plea for scientific help from the show's creator, Vince Gilligan, Dr. Nelson volunteered to advise the show regarding organic chemistry. Her contributions included reviewing scripts, providing scientific dialogue, drawing chemical structures, and writing chemical equations which were used as props. Beyond Breaking Bad, Dr. Nelson has lent her scientific expertise to productions such as The Big Bang Theory, Twisters, and the documentary Godfather of Fentanyl.
